SKENE (Ballater/Aberdeen)
It is with the heaviest hearts that we announce the sad passing of Derek Alexander Skene, aged 66. Derek passed away at home in Ballater on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, after a very short but courageous battle with illness. As described by many, Derek was one of life's good guys and “an absolute gentleman”. A devoted husband to Margaret, father to Gemma and Michael, the best “GaGa” to his four doting grandsons, brother to Alan, Colin, Gillian, father-in-law to Keith and Amy and very much loved by his broader family and friends. Derek was co-owner of the well-known “sweetie factory” - Dee Valley Confectioners in Ballater - providing boiled sweets and rock for many customers and businesses across the country, most proudly - Aberdeen FC.
We are so incredibly proud of the fight he put up to stay with us all. Words cannot describe how much he will be missed by both his family and his friends. There will be a private funeral service at Baldarroch Crematorium, Crathes, however we would like to welcome everyone to celebrate Derek’s life on Thursday June 6, at his beloved Pittodrie Stadium at 13:30. Please wear a touch of red or as much red as you would like. Family flowers only please but donations, if desired, can be made at Pittodrie for local charities that Derek held close to his heart.
